If you teach Shakespeare to middle or high schoolers, San Francisco Shakespeare Festival invites you to a watch party to preview our latest educational program. Takes on Shakes offers new and exciting "takes" on classic Shakespeare plays. This on-demand video series also comes with a written curriculum for teachers.
Get a first-hand preview of this brave new video series that explores iconic scenes from popular Shakespeare plays at our Educators Watch Party! In addition to having the opportunity to see samples of the on-demand videos and curriculum materials, members from the creative team that developed the program will be on-hand to discuss goals of the program and answer your questions. You'll be able to voice what kinds of resources teachers of Shakespeare want and need.
The first episode in the series explores the iconic balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet as we assume it should be played, followed by TAKES based on gender norms in the 16th, 19th, and 21st centuries. The second episode examines issues of consent and personal agency in A Midsummer Night’s Dream , and features scenes from the forest with Oberon, Titania, Puck, and Bottom.
