Free Shakespeare in the Park 2007 has the Chronicle's 'little
man' jumping from his seat with applause!
"This
funny, appealing production casts quite a spell."
-
Pam Grady, San Francisco Chronicle (Read the entire review)
Who
can forget the multiple plots of mixed-up lovers, mischievous
fairies, and regular working-class guys transformed by the magic
of theatre? Shakespeare's comic powers are at their pinnacle in
the lovers' witty rhymed couplets, the lyrical poetry of the fairies,
and the delightfully down-to-earth prose of Bottom, the amateur
actor who acquires a donkey's head and an unusual love interest
on one crazy midsummer night.
Midsummer provides an excellent introduction to Shakespeare
for first-time theatre-goers, and its multiple delights continue
to enthrall seasoned audiences. It's hard to imagine a better
place to see it than outdoors in the Bay Area's most beautiful
parks.
Resident Director Kenneth Kelleher celebrates his
5th year with the Festival. His arresting visual style and use
of music and dance brought rave
reviews for our 2006 production of The Tempest.
