We are indebted to Patti and Sean for their consideration and
efforts in establishing this proclamation from Mayor Gavin Newsome!
PATTI CARLISE is the first one you meet in Mayor
Gavin Newsom's Office of Neighborhood Services (MONS). Got
a degree of separation between what you need and how The City
can help? Everyone knows Patti and Patti knows everyone. Patti
also serves as the MONS Liaison to the film community and is directly
responsible for formulating the mayor's Music Task Force. Her
particular passions are about inspiring and creating Opportunity
for The City's underserved children whose creative impulse and
vision will secure a better future for us all.
SEÁN MARTINFIELD is a native San Franciscan and pleased
to be Mayor Gavin Newsom's occasional "Stand-In" for
his many official and public Proclamations honoring our citizens
and institutions. In addition to serving as a volunteer in the
office of Supervisor Bevan Dufty, Seán is the Fine Arts
Critic for the on-line journal, SanFranciscoSentinel.com,
and a well-known vocal coach to Bay Area singers and actors.
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Shakespeare In The Park observes its 24th continuous
season as part of San Francisco's diverse cultural scene, causing
us to "consider every thing that grows / Holds in perfection
but a little moment, / That this huge stage presenteth nought
but shows / Whereon the stars in secret influence comment;"
and
WHEREAS, Shakespeare In The Park freely endows legions
of viewers with its full "sound and fury", removing
common barriers to cultural participation - such as the price
of a ticket, a convenient venue, and a luminous location - thus,
making all the world its stage and all of us its players; and
WHEREAS, the Shakespeare Festival's unique arts education
programs - such as Bay Area Shakespeare Camps, Shakespeare on
Tour, and Midnight Shakespeare - are happily conjoined with the
San Francisco Park and Recreation Department to reach underserved
communities and provide safe alternative learning environments
where "pleasure and action make the hours seem short";
and
WHEREAS, the dedication of its Board, the commitment of
its Administrative and Artistic Staff, and the unhesitating determination
and excellence of its Players have caused the San Francisco Shakespeare
Festival to grow into one of the Nation's premiere and free presenters
of the Bard of Avon; and
WHEREAS, Shakespeare In The Park has become the Muse of
Fire, ascending the "brightest heaven of invention"
- causing all of San Francisco to be the foundation and "stuff
as dreams are made on"; now
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I Gavin Newsom, Mayor of
the City and County of San Francisco, do hereby proclaim September
3rd of 2007 as
SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK LABOR DAY HOLIDAY
IN SAN FRANCISCO!
