Everyone has the opportunity to learn from the best
Half book club, half on-your-feet performance experience, this class allows theatre and Shakespeare lovers aged 19-99 to dive more deeply into the text of the upcoming Free Shakespeare in the Park production. Taught by Resident Artists of SF Shakes, with special visits from designers, choreographers, and performers, this class is not to be missed for anyone who loves to come to our shows with a little background on the history and language of the play. Absolutely no performance experience necessary! Classes for 2017's Hamlet begin soon.
Shakespeare for All is a community-based project in California's Central Valley. From 2012 to 2014, SF Shakes brought professional directors, actors, and production staff to Central Valley communities such as Salida, Modesto, Chowchilla, and Madera to learn about and stage a Shakespeare play. Everyone who was interested could attend a series of free Shakespeare workshops hosted by SF Shakes Resident Artists at local libraries. The projects culminated in two to three weeks of rehearsal in which professional actors and directors worked alongside community residents to perform Shakespeare's plays. Every community brought their own unique interpretation of Shakespeare's stories and succeeded in their acclaimed performances.
