Getting to The Presidio

Free Shakespeare in the Park is performed at the Main Post Parade Ground Lawn in the heart of the Presidio between Montgomery, Lincoln, Graham, and Sheridan Streets. The performance space is not far from the Presidio Visitor Center.

Please note, parking in the area is limited. Some options include:
  • the lot on Anza, between Sheridan and Lincoln.
  • the lot at Moraga & Graham, near the Presidio Officers’ Club.
  • the lot at 103 Taylor Road.

Most parking areas are regulated seven days a week, including Sundays. When parking, always look for and follow posted regulations, which may differ around the Presidio.

In paid parking areas, drivers must display an hourly or daily parking permit that corresponds to the zone number shown on posted signs. Permits can be purchased from a Pay-and-Display pay station. All pay stations accept credit and debit cards, and many accept coins.

Public Transportation

The Main Post Parade Grounds are very accessible using public transit. For step-by-step trip planning, use Google Maps or These sites provide current transit schedules and routes.

The Presidio website also offers detailed directions for trip planning. Remember that the PresidiGo Shuttle System is free and provides transportation to and around the Presidio seven days a week.

Access and seating

Performance Time

  • Performances begin at 2:00 pm. There is one intermission. The show ends at approximately 4:20 pm.
  • At 1:30 pm, a 15-minute Green Show is performed as an introduction to the performance.


  • The park is open all day long. Arrive early for best seating.
  • Seating is first come, first served. Setting out placeholders like blankets, ground cover, coolers or chairs is allowed. They may be removed if the items are unattended when the show begins.
  • Aisles and walkways will be marked. These spaces must be kept clear at all times.

General Seating

  • All shows are free to the public. No tickets or reservations are required. All seating is general.
  • Late arrivals are welcome! Be prepared to sit where you can find space; you may be able to move closer after intermission. If you arrive late, take care not to walk in front of the stage.
  • All unattended personal items, including bags, blankets, and ground covers may be removed when the show begins.
  • To ensure visibility for all patrons, umbrellas, tents and large shade structures are not allowed.
  • Lawn chairs of all sizes are welcome in the performance space. Signage will designate the areas for tall chairs and short chairs.
  • The space is accessible for wheelchairs users.

What To Bring

  • A performance in the Presidio can be warm or chilly. There may also be high winds. We highly recommend checking the weather on the day you attend.
  • There is no shade so we highly recommend hats, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Remember to stay hydrated.
  • Blankets and ground covers are highly recommended.
  • To ensure visibility for all patrons, tents, umbrellas, tall or large tables, and shade structures are not permitted.
  • Strollers are allowed, provided they are folded down during the performance and not blocking walkways or in the aisles.

Recycling IconTrash, compost and recycling containers are located throughout the park. Please dispose of your trash. Pack out what you pack in!

  • Lost and found items are stored at the Information Table and Concessions.
  • After the performance, call the offices for San Francisco Shakespeare Festival at 415.558.0888.
  • Please be aware of personal items. The Festival cannot assume responsibility for lost or stolen items.

  • For questions and general information about SF Shakes, stop by the Information Table near the stage. Our staff will be happy to assist you.
  • A concessions table with snacks, candy, water, soft drinks, coffee, hot chocolate and tea is available. Cash and credit cards are accepted. All items are $2.
  • A Hospitality Manager is always on-site and can assist with a variety of questions and concerns about your experience or other SF Shakes programs.

Services for Senior and Handicapped Patrons


A limited number of handicapped permit parking spaces are available in the Presidio. However, they are a short distance from the performance space.


  • A wheel chair deck is available in the performance meadow.
  • We are happy to accommodate patrons to the best of our ability. If you get to the park and need assistance, please see the Hospitality Manager or a staff member.
