Your students will be engrossed by Shakespeare’s gripping tale of the tragic consequences of misguided ambition. Mysterious dangers are foretold and hasty courses of action have dark consequences that affect both the individual and society.
The ill-conceived plans that result from a desire for power at any cost offer one of the greatest character studies ever written. Macbeth begins the tale as a heroic warrior returning from battle. As he succumbs to his irrational desire to become ruler through any means possible, the choices he makes result in his inevitable downfall. Although Macbeth is both an agent and victim of malevolence, his keen insight and imagination allow him to observe the folly and torment of choosing evil over good. Even as he yields to his temptations to usurp the Scottish throne, he recognizes that violence will beget violence, and ultimately end in disaster.
As always, our touring production travels with a cast of professional actors in costume, with set, props, and recorded music. At the conclusion of the show they will take questions from the audience.
This professionally-directed 55 minute show, performed in Shakespeare’s original text, includes THREE WEEKS OF ONE-HOUR LESSON PLANS, written especially for teachers by director Rebecca J. Ennals. Her guides have been acclaimed as valuable resources in readily facilitating an enhanced understanding of the plot, themes, character motives, and language found in Shakespeare’s writing.
An optional one-hour PLAYSHOP
for students who want to dig deeper into Macbeth, and get some hands-on experience with acting, is also available (immediately
before or after your show).
Rebecca J. Ennals, renowned for her ability to make Shakespeare's
plays accessible to audiences of all levels, also directed last season's popular production of The Tempest, as well as our prior touring productions of
Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet, Twelfth Night, The Comedy of Errors, Two Gentlemen of Verona,
and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
As always the script (edited for length) includes all major plot points and well-known speeches.
Shakespeare on Tour has not staged a production of Macbeth since 2002; we look forward to bringing this engaging tale to life at YOUR location!

About Shakespeare on Tour
For over a decade, Shakespeare On Tour has traveled across the state
bringing a fifty-five minute version of a Shakespeare play to thousands
of students. Each fall and spring our touring troupe of actors arrive
at hundreds of venues, bringing sets, props, costumes, and music
to enliven their performance. The production is professionally directed
and suitable for elementary students through adults. The tour visits
more schools than any other theater group in the state; this year
alone, the tour will present more than 200 performances to over
20,000 children!
Schools also receive a curriculum guide written by professional
educators, with lesson plans designed to help teachers prepare their
students to more fully appreciate the performance.
