Fall tour begins October 2008...

Bring Shakespeare's classic tale of love and loss to YOUR location!

Also available:
PLAYSHOP - a one hour,
hands-on experience
that will deepen your
students' appreciation of Shakespeare On Tour's "Romeo & Juliet"!

Romeo & Juliet provides an excellent introduction to Shakespeare and drama that can be appreciated on a variety of levels. The action of the story-line is easily understood and moves the plot forward quite readily. The motives of the characters are clear and many of the conflicts are as relevant today as they were in Shakespeare’s time.

The play can be viewed as a commentary on parent-child conflicts as well as an examination of prejudice. It can be used as a springboard for discussions about hostility, deception, and the consequences of faulty decision-making. It can be enjoyed for its swash-buckling action scenes or used as a review of classic dramatic elements such as fate, fortune, and the tragic hero.

This professionally directed 55 minute performance includes a teacher's curriculum book containing THREE WEEKS OF LESSON PLANS (written in accordance with state educational standards) that explore the motives, themes, plot structure, and characters found in Romeo & Juliet.

Our touring production travels with a cast of five actors (playing dual roles) in costume, with set, props, and recorded music. As always, they will also stay for a post-show Q&A session with the audience.

Enhance your students’ appreciation of Romeo & Juliet by scheduling our newly launched PLAYSHOP - a participatory one-hour workshop with the cast, that takes place immediately before or after your show.

The engaging and enriching curriculum materials have been developed by the show’s director Rebecca J. Ennals, a former Teaching Artist in Residence with the California school system. Materials have been prepared for grades K-12 (specific exercises and content will vary based on grade level).

The teaching artists are trained professionals with comprehensive backgrounds in Shakespeare and performance. Call 415-558-0888 for details!

About Shakespeare on Tour

For over a decade, Shakespeare On Tour has traveled across the state bringing a fifty-five minute version of a Shakespeare play to thousands of students. Each fall and spring our touring troupe of actors arrive at hundreds of venues, bringing sets, props, costumes, and music to enliven their performance. The production is professionally directed and suitable for elementary students through adults. The tour visits more schools than any other theater group in the state; this year alone, the tour will present more than 200 performances to over 20,000 children!

Schools also receive a curriculum guide written by professional educators, with lesson plans designed to help teachers prepare their students to more fully appreciate the performance.
